About HSAR Headwaters Search and Rescue K-9(HSAR) is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides trained personnel and dogs to law enforcement agencies to assist in finding individuals who have become lost. HSAR teams have responded to law enforcement agency requests through out the State of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Generally, an immediate response can be mounted to any request by a law enforcement agency for search resources. Our toll-free emergency
800-number is manned 24 hours a day by dispatch personnel at the Vilas
County Sheriff's department, with call-out information sent to team members
via a paging system. HSAR search teams are located in Calumet, Manitowoc,
Oconto, Outagamie, Vilas, Waupaca, and Wood Counties in Wisconsin and
Iron County, Michigan Headwaters Search
and Rescue K-9 is an affiliated member of the American Rescue Dog Association
(ARDA). The American Rescue Dog Association is composed of ten units
in the states of Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and
Wisconsin. The units have banded together for the purpose of providing
a skilled, nationwide search and rescue service to responsible agencies.
Each unit utilizes specially trained air-scenting dogs to locate missing
individuals in wilderness search and disaster situations. The Association has
established rigid standards for dog/handler teams and member organizations
that assure a consistent level of search and rescue expertise. All Headwaters
Search and Rescue dog handlers are volunteers. They are not paid for their
work or for the training and support of their dogs and there is no charge
for their services in locating a missing person. Private tax-deductible donations of money, supplies and equipment are the only sources of support for unit activities. All monetary donations enable our unit to purchase equipment and obtain continuing education. Home
